When I was young we hardly went to the Dr. and even less to the E.R. my mom would handle the vast majority of our childhood illnesses. I am not saying she was a health wizard, she had the skills that were passed on to her from her mom. I remember having ear infections, she would heat up some oil and place it in my ear, she would keep me warm, and the pain would go soon I was back playing outside again. There was a sense of independence and self-reliance, we knew to be careful, but if we would get hurt, mom was there to figure it out.
Bumps and bruises, minor cuts and scrapes, would happen every day when kids played outside, riding bikes, playing chasing or all the other games we would play with friends in the neighborhood. Of course, when things were more than what mom could handle, we would go to the Dr. and the E.R. even, but it was not that common, mom would say “You are not that sick, and that is the place for very sick people, the Dr. are busy looking after them”
It is sad these days, moms have missed out and the knowledge has not been passed down the generations. Instead what there is the regular need for medical intervention for minor ailments, medications are regularly prescribed. When we were sick we often would a cuddle and be kept warm and cozy in bed resting, we have the reassurance that we will be fine. Mom is here.
I have been teaching Homeopathic First Aid at the Continuing Education since 2017, I will be starting my second year of teaching in October. One of the main reason why I accepted the original offer, was I wished to empower caregivers, mostly moms, to help themselves and learn enough to be confident prescribing homeopathic remedies for minor ailments when their loved ones needed help.
The students learned a lot, the classes are hands on as I wanted to teach using as many senses as possible because it is easy to learn and remember.
We work on many realistic case studies and the students learn how to identify situations and how to find the correct remedy.
What did they learn? We start with preparing to have a healthy winter, knowing the difference between a cold and flu, how to avoid getting the flu using common sense, and if we end up with the flu, what are the best remedies to help the body recover. Sometimes we have lots of snow that need shovelling, it can lead to over tiredness, potential sprains and strains, and once again we will be finding the best remedy by observing how the limb is, the type of pain, what makes it better and what makes it worse.
In other classes students will learn about first aid for cuts, burns, bruises. Students will leaned how to prevent infections and if the infections sets in, what to do.
Over indulgence, or too much food or drinks is covered closer to Christmas, in these sets of classes we will also learn grief remedies as, Christmas can be a sad time if a loved one has recently passed.
Are you interested learning what remedies you can safely use to help your family, the beauty of all this is that homeopathic remedy kits are available to purchase in class, this means that there is no need to rush off to the store late at night when a child needs help.
